About Reflexology?

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural, holistic, healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands, feet and ears that correspond to every gland, organ and part of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation, and helps your body to restore itself to a healthy balance. Reflexology provides some measure of benefit to all and can be part of a preventative health care regimen. Our treatments will usually focus on the feet due magnitude of benefit that working these areas will provide.

What are some of the benefits of Reflexology?
• Improved circulation
• Improved digestion
• Promotion of relaxation and tension release
• Improved lymphatic and cardiovascular circulation, drainage and elimination
• Maintenance or re-establishment of balance in the body

About Your Treatment

Preparation for the treatment:
• Be sure to schedule your appointment an hour after eating.
• Try to schedule it when you can go home and relax afterwards so your body can continue the healing process. If you have to rush off back to work or another appointment, the treatment may be less effective.
What to expect during the treatment:
• The reflexologist will take a short client history to best understand your needs.
• You will remove your socks and shoes and relax in an aromoatherapy foot bath.
• You will lie comfortably on a massage table.
• The reflexologist will inspect your feet and begin the treatment.
• You may hear your stomach start to gurgle – which is normal as your body is entering the parasympathetic state.
• Try to remain quiet & relax unless you want to communicate tender areas to the practitioner. Let your body start to heal.
• You may feel relaxed, tired, or possibly even fall asleep.
What to expect after the treatment:
Be sure to drink plenty of water after the treatment to allow for removal of toxins and to minimize possible side effects. You may experience any of the following in the 24 hours after the session:

• Release of pain - relaxation of nerves and muscle tension
• Runny nose or excess mucus - detoxification of sinuses
• Perspiration - release of excess fluids or detoxification through the skin
• Eyes watering - cleansing of lachrymal glands
• Gas release - improved stomach and bowel function
• Tiredness - body switches into parasympathetic mode (rest and digest)
• Nausea and headache - cleansing of toxins
• Temporary rash - release of toxins through the skin
• Greatly energized - system running cleaner
